PACO IBANEZ

(A Goyo and Milka)

29 January. One day very special. Had received some emails from Isabell before leaving for France that gave me a disturbing information: Paco Ibáñez concert in a town nearby (relatively) to Rodez, at Elizabeth's house. Since Elizabeth had planned everything. He had arranged a trip to the city of Toulouse (which speak easy) and after the visit we went to the city of Graulhet. Paco Ibáñez is well known in the south of France, lived in exile somewhat cultivated here and great friends (some of them are close friends of my host). When I read the message, or perhaps my memory was when my college years in the 80's did a band called Parsley. The group leaders were Fito Luján and Milka Rabasa. She was looking for songs most suitable to be interpreted by the group that were Paty Matuk, Mariella Monzón, Ricardo and I sometimes. And for the first time I heard the music of Paco. His concert at the Olympia album became a mandatory hearing in my house and my brothers already knew these melodies. As Silvio, Pablo, Joan Manuel and Mercedes, was also Paco Ibáñez. His tone of voice was known to us as well as their interpretations of the Archpriest of Hita, Gongora and León Felipe. Neruda was recited several times in my literature classes to music for the poem XV or XX. Quevedo arrived with much love for my students with their songs. I would never have the opportunity to see him. Had seen 70 to Mercedes Sosa or Quilapayú in Arequipa, in the 80 to Inti Illimani and Serrat in Lima, in Israel I saw Joan Baez, who began his concert singing Thanks to Life in Castilian, no more emotion this time. But Paco was not in my mind.
8:30 pm, promptly came on stage dressed all in black with guitar in hand, we spoke either French and Castilian, the audience understood everything. Their traditional songs rang and people accompanied them. The most exciting moment when we said that the song he sang words to Julia in Argentina in a place where there was torture. Excited told us the public reaction. Very trejo man and his years behind is not silent at all. His anger is sincere and her voice conveyed her feelings.
Almost one and half hour concert filled us all present. A Galloping dragged the old English to loud applause and left us his strong critique of current American and European policies.
After the concert and after about 15 minutes, let me go talk to him. "A Peruvian wants to talk with you," went to his dressing room with all the people and shook my hand, then grabbed his guitar and made a feint of huayno playing a rhythm, he said he was intent on composing a huayno. He had been last year in Machu Picchu and Peru liked, its people, its rhythm, I spoke of Vallejo and has, hopefully it does, the intention of creating music for some poems. Why? We talked about Peruvian musical reality of the situation in South America, Lima and Cuzco, and I hope one day come to a concert, has been in Argentina, Chile, Venezuela, and here we are concerned that reaches Jonas Brothers, I doubt that the monetary interest them bring it to pass over his head.
I waved an affectionate embrace and waiting to see him again. Hopefully. A night to remember.
